Include specific computers or users as allowed or denied access to an activation

Configure CodeMeter options to allow or deny access to an activation for specific computers or users.

Keep these considerations in mind when configuring CodeMeter options:

  • Only activations that are currently on the server can be configured.
  • Changing the access rules might require a refresh of the CodeMeter server.
  • To configure a computer to be a CodeMeter server, select the Run Network Server box on the Advanced > Configure CodeMeter page.

To include specific computers or users as allowed or denied access to an activation:

  1. In FactoryTalk Activation Manager, click the Advanced tab.
  2. Click Configure CodeMeter.
  3. Click Web Admin to open the CodeMeter WebAdmin utility.

    Tip:

In the CodeMeter WebAdmin utility, click the help CodeMeterHelpIcon icon for more information on settings and parameters.

  4. On the Configuration menu, click Server > License Access Permissions.
  5. In the Mode box, select Advanced.
  6. In the Advanced Mode Configuration box, under Specific access rules, click Add new Firm Code to open the Add Firm Code box.
  7. Select the firm code to configure and click Add. The firm code is added under Specific access rules.
  8. Under the firm code, click Add New Product Code to open the Add Product Code box.
  9. Select the product name for the activation to be included and click Add.
  10. Select the default action for any computer access that is not configured with an access rule. For example, selecting Deny for the default action denies every access that is not specifically allowed in an access rule. Selecting Allow for the default action allows every access that is not specifically denied in an access rule.
  11. Click Add new access rule to open the Add Rule box.
  12. For Action, select the opposite of the default action. For example, if the default action is Deny for access not covered by the rule, select Allow for the rule action.
  13. In the Host, Subnet, or User box, enter an identifier for the computer to be allowed to borrow an activation.
    • In the HOST box, enter the computer name or IP address for which access should be allowed, or
    • In the Subnet box, enter the IP address for which access should be allowed, or
    • In the User box, enter the user for whom access should be allowed. Use the following format:

      DomainName\UserName or PCName\UserName

    • In the Group box, enter a Windows user group for whom access should be allowed. Use the following format:

      DomainName\GroupName
